Myself

My name is Nolan McCoy. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington and currently living in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In 2016, I graduated from Hillsong International Leadership College in Sydney, Australia with an emphasis in Leadership, Film Production and Marketing.

Since then I’ve had the opportunity to work with and for some incredible tech startups, non-profits, and global brands. Applying my experiences and skills, I serve creatives, drive imagination into marketing, and try to create my best work every day while teaching and inspiring others.

Not Settling For The Normal

"Not settling for the normal" is my mission statement. The new thing I'm creating shouldn't be like anything else I've created before. I never want to fall into a "normal" way of what I do, but constantly be trying new things and brainstorming new approaches to how things are done. I believe this is a lifestyle -- not sinking into familiarity or comfortability.

I say we should get out and trying new things! Be bold, be courageous! Only you can hold back your own potential. 

The Brand

I purchased my first camera in 2009, inspired to document and capture the world around me. Shortly after posting a small collection of my first photos online, I was asked to take senior portraits for a friend. This became my first paid photography job and it was the first time I was paid to do what I love! From there, I was inspired to hone my craft and learn more about my passions. I had always been intrigued by the idea of filmmaking, but I never thought I would have the equipment to learn how. Through the video capabilities on my DSLR, I realized this was more within reach than I thought. I started making one-take music videos for a friend of mine and then small skits and promos for my local church. I studied college abroad in Australia, where I made one of my first short films.

Since then, I've been on a journey through trial and error to not put my identity into my work or make it systematical. I strive for excellence and never believe I will finally arrive. There always more to learn and room to grow! 

The core name of the company derives from my surname, McCoy. There's an old Scottish saying that says, "He's the real McCoy!"

McCoy -- noun
1. The genuine thing or person as promised, stated, or implied (usually preceded by the or the real)

It was clear to me that I wanted to incorporate this saying with what I love to do. I chose this as a personal challenge and as customer assurance so what I make is my own and genuine from my heart and craft. 

Studios -- noun, plural
2. A room or place for instruction or experimentation in one of the performing arts.

I choose the word "Studios" for the purpose of freeing myself from a box of a single medium. I wanted to make sure I left myself open to expanding what I love to do and allow the brand to follow suit.
